April 8, 2026 | The 2026 Vivli AMR Surveillance Data Challenge Opens April 13

We’re excited to announce that the 2026 Vivli AMR Surveillance Data Challenge opens on April 13, 2026. This year’s challenge invites students, researchers, and data scientists from around the world to unlock the potential of AMR surveillance data — and compete for awards totaling over $50,000 in prizes and travel grants.

Why It Matters

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the top 10 global public health threats, and resistant infections could become the leading cause of death worldwide by 2050. The Vivli AMR Register brings together surveillance data from nine leading pharmaceutical companies — collected across 89 countries over 20 years, with more than one million isolates — and makes it available to researchers ready to tackle this challenge head-on.

What You’ll Do

Submit a 300-word Expression of Interest, form a team of 2–5 researchers, and spend 8 weeks analyzing data from the AMR Register. You’re encouraged to combine Register datasets with your own open data sources to generate innovative insights, develop new tools, or answer pressing questions in AMR surveillance. The best submissions move to a live finalist pitch round.

Awards

Six named awards are available, including:

  • AMR Global Leadership Award — $10,000 prize + $5,000 travel grant
  • AMR Visionary Award — $10,000 prize + $5,000 travel grant
  • Student Innovation Award — $5,000 travel grant
  • Student Impact Award — $5,000 travel grant
  • Impact Award — $5,000 prize + $2,000 travel grant
